Each year, proceeds from the annual Celebrity Golf Tournament, Yoakum Spring Fling Benefit, private donations, and grants provide funds for operational expenses. Bluebonnet’s goal is to continue its operation through the care and concern of individuals, groups, clubs, businesses and foundations. The organization could not exist and continue its purpose of providing a home for abused and neglected children without support from these sources. For additional information and for those parties interested in helping the Bluebonnet Youth Ranch obtain funding for current needs and/or projects, please contact Kim Reeves at (361) 293-3546.

Fundraisers

Since Bluebonnet Youth Ranch is a non-profit organization, its doors are kept open by donations and contributions from individuals, groups, clubs, businesses and foundations. Each year, proceeds from the Yoakum Annual Spring Fling, Bluebonnet Youth Ranch Celebrity Golf Tournament, private donations, and grants provide operational funds. The goal is to continue to support the Ranch financially in order to provide a home for abused and neglected children.

Spring Fling Benefit – Bluebonnet hosts its annual Spring Fling Benefit the first weekend in April at the Yoakum Community Center. BBQ chicken dinner plates are sold with all the trimmings, along with a dessert booth full of homemade cookies, cakes, pies and other baked goods. The event consists of a silent and live auction, plant booth with a large variety of flowering plants and hanging baskets, and a crafts booth that features items made by the staff and children of Bluebonnet Youth Ranch, such as birdhouses, push toys, quilt racks, and various other handmade items.

The event actually kicks off with a golf tournament on the first Saturday in April at the Yoakum City Park. The tournament consists of a four-player scramble and a shotgun start at noon, with cash prizes for first, second and third place, and prizes for the “Closest to the Pin” and “Straightest Drive” winners. Player registration and sponsor forms will be available prior to the event at the BYR office, Yoakum Golf Course, Cuero Municipal Golf Course, Victoria Country Club, and Colony Creek Country Club.

Celebrity Golf Tournament and Showdown – Bluebonnet’s major fundraising event, the annual Celebrity Golf Tournament and Showdown, raises much-needed operational funds for the Ranch. The event is held every October at the Victoria Country Club, and festivities include a dinner & auction, celebrity showdown & dance, as well as course games, a helicopter golf ball drop and raffle.

Red Steagall, Country Western Entertainer, returns every year as co-host of the event and lines up a group of entertainers from the world of Country and Western music and several former major league baseball players to join us in the fun and festivities. Also participating in the event are former professional football and basketball players, and golfers.

The tournament format features a best ball shamble utilizing 60% of handicaps. Each team consists of 4 amateurs and a celebrity, and amateur prizes are awarded to the top six teams each day. Evening activities include the traditional banquet and charity auction held at the Holy Family Activity Center, and a dance featuring celebrities from the world of country music.

Bluebonnet depends heavily on its annual spring and fall fundraisers. Businesses and individuals can participate in either of these events as a corporate sponsor, hole sponsor, golf participant, auction donor and/or volunteer. Again, all proceeds raised from the Spring Fling and Celebrity Golf Tournament are used for Bluebonnet’s operating expenses. We would appreciate any support your organization is willing to provide in these fundraisers that benefit the children who call the Bluebonnet Youth Ranch “home”.
